Wu, Shang-Lin

For the residence in ARCUS

When I was a high school student, I have been to Japan with my family. At the time, I was deeply impressed by Japanese hi-tech and its rich cultural resources.

During my stay in Arcus Project I hope to discover historic but deserted places in Moriya, to know their history and to meet related people. I am looking forward to having contact with local residents and artists in Moriya, as well as to creating a connection between my project and this city.

I hope to provide viewers with other perspective to their life at the moment. My project “Space of Remembrance” is not merely a project to record abandoned spaces with anecdotes. It is also a comparison between modern and abandon through different places. I would like to present the change of cities and the influence caused by this change in various methods.

Wu, Shang-lin focuses on how people live their life facing tide of globalization where the capital, information and people move around. His careful observation is represented in those series of works of installation and performance. He is especially interested in the situation of "urbanization" which happens in many places in Asia. During his stay in ARCUS, he will conduct a project work in progress, "portrait of city" which tries to capture a sign of "change" in the city with photograph, video and sound.
