For the residence in ARCUS
During the residency in Ibaraki I would like to research the particular communication structures in family relations. I will invite locals from Moriya to take part in a collaborative project. Its about conjoint recollection and the very moment of intimacy. I will create the frame for this video work, but the shape of the final piece will be determined as much by me as by the particular presence and activity of the participants. Based on this collaborations I am looking forward to get in lively exchange of ideas with people from inside and outside art context. So I very appreciate the public and community programs of the ARCUS- Project. |

Doreen Uhlig has been working on various types of works and projects of performance, installation and video beyond the genres and mediums. In Moriya, she will research culture and history of the town to get inspiration for starting her project. The project will involve community and it will be completed through collaboration with local residents.
The kind of project that says more by saying less. Holding back when it could go all out. I was fond of this work in a way that was quite personal. Although missing in an ambition, or a perfectionism, that I think would be beneficial in Uhlig's work, this was more than made up for by the formal strengths and refreshingly idiosyncractic approach.

Her proposal for the residency is very consistent with her practice. Ms Uhlig’s intriguing way of working with performance does not only advance in questioning what performance actually is in our contemporary arena, but does also give an insight into the artists personal psyche without using direct images of her personal life. Different from so many other related art work, this distance that Ms Uhlig’s consciously apply by refusing direct imaginary makes her work much more complex and unstable. Art in it’s pure experimental voice.

Doreen Uhlig’s artistic proposal is one of the more poetical that I have seen in this application, especially with its idea of including the process in the artwork with its deconstruction and reconstruction.
The project Doreen proposes will be connected to the place in which the artistic project occurs, transforming it into an artistic scene during the time of its experimenting and production. In this work, I appreciate the way in which the artist reveals that the specific material from which the work is composed come from the personal stories of the local participants. This is how humanity built culture.
