Biography
Born in Shan Xi, China in 1968. Graduated Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing in 1989, and studied sculpture between 1990-96 at Repin State Academy Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, St. Petersburg, Russia. Currently, Associate Professor at Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing.
During residency
Zhang took interest in Japan as an island country, after experiencing the first earthquake in his life in Japan. He used rice paper and completed a sculptural installation that was suspended from the ceiling Archipelago 0:3000000.
